Glover began his newspaper career as a news photographer and reporter at the Brampton Daily Times and Conservator, in Ontario. He later served as a full-time news photographer at the New Westminster Columbian, in British Columbia. In this position he was responsible not only for taking photographs, but also for developing and printing photos for use in the newspaper. This experience served Ry well in developing his one-day class on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom which is also sponsored by the Panorama Recreation Centre.
He was a Professional Editor for the Vancouver Sun, the Province and the Victoria Times Colonist, including a stint as Editor of the Sun’s Op-Ed and Forum pages. He was also a Senior Writer and Line-Up Editor for the CBC television NewsCentre in Vancouver.
As City Hall Reporter for the Vancouver Sun, Ry served as a regular beat reporter and published a weekly column on the editorial pages. He also appeared regularly as a City Hall commentator interviewed by Allan Fotheringham on the old Vancouver show, which appeared on CKVU 13, now CityTV.
Public Relations and Marketing
In the 1990s, Ry was Director of Communications for the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association. He planned and implemented strategy that helped to help fight off a major initiative by the provincial government to introduce “No Fault” auto insurance. He then executed many of the tactics required to carry out the strategy. He also served as Editor of the CBA’s member newsletter, BarTalk.At ICBC, as a Marketing Communications Specialist, Ry created the Information Architecture for a major subsite of ICBC.com and also served as editor and copywriter for the site as it developed.
Ry has served a number of clients as an independent consultant over many years. These clients have included B.C. Rail, B.C. Hydro, VanCity Savings, the Greater Vancouver Regional District, the College of Dental Surgeons of B.C., the Workers Compensation Board, and many others.
Since moving to Vancouver Island 10 years ago, Ry has specialized in web development for a number of clients including Blue Fuel Energy, Aeolis Wind and Canadian Methanol. Today, he also teaches WordPress web development in “Zero to Hero” courses for the Panorama Recreation Centre.
